Meet us Uptown for a walk May 21, 2011
A walk scheduled for May 21, 2011 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Uptown Coffeehouse , 102 E. Grand River Avenue in Howell, MI is hosted by the Historic Pathwalkers, a Michigan affiliate of the American Volkssport Association/IVV, an international, non-competitive walking club. Learn more about AVA/IVV at http://ava.org/.
Members of the Walk Howell Michigan walking club are joining the Historic Pathwalkers for this group walk and everyone is invited to join us.
You do not have to pre-register and there is no charge to participate in the May 21, 2011 walk. We urge you to arrive at least 15 minutes before 10 a.m. because all participants are required to sign-in for the walk.
Those who are participating in the AVA walking program will pay $3 in order to get AVA credit for their walk. Anyone who is interested in beginning the AVA non-competitive walking program may purchase a New Walker Starter pack for $5, which will be available at the Howell start point, Uptown Coffeehouse, on the day of the walk. This packet contains coupons for two, free-walk credits and also contains a Distance book and a Event book worth $5 each, as well as a booklet about volksmarching and coupons for other free items. The Event and Distance books are stamped with individual walk stamps to show that you have walked that event; but you never have to pay anything, or buy anything, for any AVA walk if you do not wish to get AVA credit for your walk.
Once you have signed in, you will be given a map and directions for the walk, and we will start out as a group at 10 a.m. The walk is 10K (6.3 miles), and a 5K (3 mile) option is also included. The walk will finish at the Uptown Coffeehouse, and the 5K option will take approximately one hour.
You can learn more about our Historic Pathwalkers club at http://historicpathwalkers.blogspot.com/ . You can also view a map of the Howell YRE at http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/12662900. Both Historic Pathwalkers and Walk Howell Michigan walking clubs have a Facebook page. LIKE us to get information about programs and events.
Note: As part of the celebration of Howell History Days, there is a car show on State Street on the day of the walk, so there will be no parking on State Street that day. Park in the public lot at Clinton & State, or in public lots on Sibley.
